Hearts bling!

by Sander Marechal

Just a quick update to show you what I have been working on lately besides what you see in the commits list; I'm trying to find/create some new art for Hearts.

(large version)

I'm no artist so luckily there is lots of stuff around to draw inspiration from and work off. The card deck (which I have dubbed “bling”) is based off the gnome-games card templates (http://rahga.com/svg/) which were suggested to me by Richard Hoelscher. I've tried to go for the glossy effect that you can also see on the upcoming Hearts for Microsoft Vista. I found the background on KDE look and luckily it was published under the GPL (I would like to give credit to the author, but KDE look is down at the moment so I'll have to find the author's name later).

There is still quite a lot to be done. The background can do with some improvements, the cards still need backsides and the jacks, queens and kings need images, but so far I am quite happy with it :-) It will probably be a while before these get added to the subversion repository though. One problem is that most user's can't render these SVG's because gradients are not yet supported (at least not on my system) so I first have to do manual conversions to PNG. Another is that I want to have it in a more finished state. At least some backgrounds applied to the cards.

Update: KDE look is back. The original author of the background is Zoltan Mastala.

I hope I've whetted you appetite!
