Subversion server is down

The subversion server is down. There is a problem with mod_gnutls that causes Apache to use 100% CPU and never finish any request. It started around 5 AM this morning (European time) and nothing I do seems to work.

#apache on irc.freenode.net isn'table to help either, so I am forced to take the SSL domains on the server offline while I investigate this issue.

I am getting really, really fed up with mod_gnutls. It is causing way more trouble that it's worth. Unfortunately it's the only way to have multiple SSL virtual hosts with just one IP address. The server that hosts subversion also hosts a few other websites which require SSL to work.

I will try to get the server back online as soon as possible.

Update 12:22h: The Subversion server is back. It turns out that there is a bug in libdb which causes gnutls to lock up when trying to write session cache data in some rare circumstances. I tried replacing libdb with memcached but unfortunately gnutls is built without memcached support on Debian Lenny.

Webserver relocation

In the week of April 14 our webserver will be moved to a new location. You should not notice anything of this since we can simply reassign the existing IP address to the new server, so no DNS cache needs to be updated. We will be upgrading our base platform from Debian Etch to Debian Lenny during the move. I will update this post once the move has been completed.

Update: The server move has been completed. Please let us know if you see any problems.

Mailserver relocation

On Wednesday the 24th our mailing list server will be moved to a new location. During the day you may not be able to send or receive mail from out our various mailing lists. At the moment we are not sure exactly what time the move will be, but it all in all it should take less than an hour.

Update: The move has been completed!

Webserver relocation

Update: The server move was successful!

On August 8th from 23:00 to 00:00 GMT our main webserver will be down. The machine be moved to a new location inside our hosting provider's datacenter. That means that the main website will be down. All services running on subdomains (like the mailinglists, subversion and bugzilla) will keep working during that time.

Note that e-mail is handled by our main server as well. That means that any e-mail you send during the downtime will not be received!

The dust puppies are attacking!

Dust puppies are attacking our mailinglist server so we had to shut it down while we attack the little critters with compressed air cans and vacuum cleaners. We're trying to get it back up as soon as possible. In teh mean time, please use our contact form if you want to send us a message.

Update: After a few hours the server as back online. All dust puppies have been dealt with in a humane manner.

mailing lists server down time

Due to a network update the mailing lists server (http://lists.jejik.com) is currently down.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Update 2008-01-22@17:30 CET: The server is running again.

Mailinglist server power failure

Due to a power failure the mailinglist server has been down. The problems should be solved now. Expect it to be running again in the next hour.

We apologioze for the inconvenience.

DNS Server Downtime

Our DNS server has had some problems today, which had led to problems connecting to our various servers. The DNS is already back up and running but due to DNS caching you may still have some connection problems. These should fade away when the caches get updated.

We apologioze for the inconvenience.

Server and network upgrade completed

The upgrade to the subversion/bugzilla server has finally been completed. It took some more time than expected because I needed to order and wait for some HP parts for the server. The new cat6 network cables and 8-port gigabit switch have also been installed.

Subversion server and network upgrade

The subversion, bugzilla and package repository server may be temporarily offline during the coming week. The server is being upgraded with a 3Ware harwdare RAID card and two 500 Gb SATA disks. I am also rewiring my entire network with cat-6 cable and will install a gigabit ethernet switch.

All other services will remain unaffected.

Mailinglist server power failure

Update: The server is back online

The server that holds our mailing lists will be down intermittently for the next couple of days due to a power failure. We hope to resolve this as soon as possible. In the mean time, if you have questions about gnome hearts, please use the contact form to ask us directly.

The other servers, such as subversion, are unaffected.

Upcoming server moves - completed!

Over the next week we are going to move various parts of our websites to a different server. We're also going to make some updates to our DNS records. In theory everything should go smoothly, but it may be possible that we experience some downtime over the next week, either because your DNS caches are too old or because we pushed the wrong button on the big box with the blinkenlights on it :-)

Update 2007-09-01: If you can read this then the move was successful!

About the recent website downtime

If you have tried to reach this website in the last four days, you will have noticed that we have had severe technical issues. There was a problem with our webhost and it took very long untill it was resolved. Because our other servers such as Bugzilla and Subversion relied on the nameserver of the webhost, these were unavailable too. It has also affected our e-mail system.

The main website is now back online. It can take some time before DNS caches have flushed and our subdomains are reachable again. If you have tried to send us e-mail in the past four days, please resend then because they have all bounced.

We sincerely apologize for the downtime. Let's hope it never happens again.

Subversion, Bugzilla and Package repository downtime

Due to a change of IP addresses several services are temporarily unreachable until the new DNS settings have replicated over the net. This should take at most 72 hours although for most of you it should be far less—24 hours max. This currently affects Bugzilla, Subversion (both the repository as the ViewVC webinterface) and the Ubuntu package repository.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Server move list server

Because of a new internet connection, the IP adres of the listserver has changed. Due to the nature of the DNS system, expect problems connecting for 72 hours. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Debian/etch Xen: Nice, but not quite ready for me

by Sander Marechal

In my previous post I explained how I set up my new server as a Xen server in order to maximize my flexibility. It's been little over a week now and I am saddened to say that Xen has gone out the Window. While I love the flexibility, it's just not ready for me yet.

lists.jejik.com downtime

Our mailinglist server at lists.jejik.com is having some problems with MailMan. The archives are again available at http://lists.jejik.com. Unfortunately there is a problem with the mail queue. Mail is received but not processed. Please expect 24-48 hours delay.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

UPDATE 2007-03-13: The server is back online.
